A Guide to Picking out the Right Light Bulbs

Light bulbs make a powerful statement in various rooms. The type of bulb that you choose impacts the level of your brain’s power as well as the schedule of your sleep. If you spend a considerable amount of time in your house, you need to ensure that it’s well lit. While proper lighting makes you feel productive and relaxed, the wrong lighting can have you feeling lazy and disoriented.

There are so many types of bulbs in the market that choosing the right one can get quite overwhelming. You cannot just pick out a random light bulb and expect that it will satisfy your needs and requirements. These bulbs can be used on all types of chandeliers including custom chandeliers, candle chandeliers, shaded chandeliers, and crystal chandeliers.

How do I pick the right light bulb?

Before you can pick out an appropriate bulb, there are a couple of factors into consideration. For example, you need to consider the purpose for that room. Generally, when you’re considering the room’s purpose, there are 3 lighting categories involved. These are:

  1. General Lighting

General lighting is also referred to as ambient lighting. It acts as the overall lighting for the room; it illuminates the entire room and is commonly considered to be the room’s natural light. For general lighting, you may use chandeliers, wall sconces, or pendant lights.

  1. Task Lighting

This type of lighting is intended to light up a working area or a study area. Task lighting is supposed to be brighter than the general lighting. The source of light usually creates a contrast by focusing on a specific area. Desk lights and spotlights are often used for this type of lighting.

  1. Accent Lighting

This type of lighting highlights a particular area and creates a shadow around a specific object to create a more dramatic effect. Wall and landscape lights are the most commonly type of lights that are used to give this effect.

What kind of illumination do I need for different rooms?

For you to illuminate the various rooms in your house using the techniques that we discussed above, you should consider how each of the rooms will be used. For starters, you should start with general lighting and then proceed to accent and task lighting.

Below are some suggestions to help you go about the entire process:

  • Living Room

In addition to the general lighting, you can use accent lighting in one of the corners. The accent light will focus on either an expensive piece of furniture or an exquisite piece of art.

  • Kitchen

Get task lighting and use it to illuminate the kitchen sink and the counter. This light source should be placed slightly lower than the general lighting.

  • Bedroom

Place task lighting on your bed stand. It’s advisable that the source of light be placed facing away from the bed, preferably towards the dressing area.

  • Bathroom

For the bathroom, get task lighting for the mirror in addition to an overhead task. These light sources are intended to create shadows.
